So what actually happens here?

Chaotic Robotics is Winona’s student robotics team. Every season we take on the FIRST robotics challenge — a few intense weeks to design, build, and program a competition robot from nothing, then haul it to regional tournaments and go head-to-head with teams from across the region. It runs the whole school year. The build season is just the loudest part.

8+ students

A small, tight-knit crew where nobody rides the bench. Every member designs, builds, wires, or drives — and there’s always room for one more.

8-week build season

From a blank slate to a competition-ready, purpose-built robot in eight weeks flat. It’s the fastest, loudest, most exciting stretch of our year.

FIRST Regional

We compete through FIRST, the world’s largest youth robotics program, going head-to-head with schools from across the region in arena-style tournaments.

It takes a whole team

A competition robot doesn’t build itself — and it definitely isn’t built by one kind of person. Here’s how we make it happen.

CAD / design

Designing every part in 3D before a single piece of metal gets cut.

Programming

Writing the code that lets the robot see, think, and move on its own.

Fabrication

Cutting, machining, and assembling raw stock into real, working parts.

Piloting

Accelerate, steer, block, position, target, launch, score. Adapt and repeat.

Electrical

Wiring the motors, sensors, and brains that bring the machine to life.

Communications

Pitching alliances, running the pit, and telling the team’s story out loud.
